Welcome to term 1 of Miss Ingram's English class...

This semester you will be learning about various text types, particularly media texts and explore their structure and purpose. You will learn how persuasive techniques are utilised in these texts to convey particular messages and how these messages encourage audiences to produce a desired response.

Using the techniques we have explored, examined and developed, you will construct your very own digital story, using software and ICT programs to persuade a target audience on your chosen issue. By the end of the unit you will be able to understand the purpose of digital elements and the characteristics you can employ in order to position an audience.

Additionally, you will be creating your own blog which you will post on to communicate ideas with your peers, respond to class activities and publish your completed digital story to show off your work!

Navigate through the website to find our class content and activities, forum, class dojo and your assessment for the term.

What am I learning From the Australian Curriculum?

You will learn how to:

  • Understand the way language evolves to reflect a changing world, particularly in response to the use of new technology for presenting texts and communicating (ACELA1528)

  • Understand that the coherence of more complex texts relies on devices that signal text structure and guide readers, for example overviews, initial and concluding paragraphs and topic sentences, indexes or site maps or breadcrumb trails for online texts (ACELA1763)

  • Analyse how point of view is generated in visual texts by means of choices, for example gaze, angle and social distance (ACELA1764)

  • Plan, draft and publish imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, selecting aspects of subject matter and particular language, visual, and audio features to convey information and ideas (ACELY1725)

  • Use a range of software, including word processing programs, to confidently create, edit and publish written and multimodal texts (ACELY1728)
